Health systems under pressure
The concept of ‘health system resilience’ has gained prominence in global health policy – but how is it applied in research? A systematic review of 71 empirical studies reveals that the theory is extensively explored, though many studies focus on only partial aspects. In particular, transformative resilience and institutional legitimacy are often overlooked. The study highlights that only through combining qualitative and quantitative approaches can we fully unlock the potential of resilience for both research and practice.
